The Ni-40 at%Co alloy-(112)<111> texture induced by cold rolling was investigated. The behavior of the magnetostriction λ is highly anisotropic and depends on the orientation of the (112)<111> texture, whereas the magnetization curves are approximately isotropic according to the randomly remaining residual stress. The magnetoelastic energy due to the residual stress, 104 J/m3 is much larger than the magnetic anisotropic energy induced by cold rolling, 103 J/m3. It was found that a change in λ caused by various heat treatments corresponds to a change of the (112)<111> texture.
