Abstract

<jats:title>ABSTRACT</jats:title><jats:p>This review attempts to give a concise overview of the widespread occurrence and the significance, structure and function of pheromones in the chemical communication between individuals of the same species during sexual reproduction in algae and plants. Also included is information on the Oomyctes and the chytridiomycete<jats:italic>Allomyces.</jats:italic>The terminology in respect of pheromone function and pheromone‐induced reactions is discussed.</jats:p>
