Indeterminacy of the Moment Problem for Intermittent Turbulence

抄録

It is shown that the log-normal distribution of local energy dissipation in high-Reynolds-number turbulence implies that the evolution of turbulence is not determined by specification of initial values for moments of all orders. The consequence of this indeterminacy for theories of turbulence is discussed.
