<jats:title>SYNOPSIS</jats:title><jats:p>Entodiniomorph ciliates, belonging to the family Cycloposthiidae, are described from the stomach contents of <jats:italic>Hippopotamus amphibius.</jats:italic><jats:bold>Monoposthium acanthum</jats:bold> gen. n., sp. n., with typical cycloposthiid structure, differs from other genera in having only 1 caudalium. <jats:bold>Parentodinium</jats:bold> gen. n., represented by <jats:bold>P. africanum</jats:bold> sp. n. and <jats:bold>P. ostrea</jats:bold> sp. n., although superficially resembling <jats:italic>Entodinium</jats:italic>, is considered to be a relatively unspecialized cycloposthiid.</jats:p>
