抄録

In order to examine the initiation of fatigue cracks along grain boundaries, three kinds of aluminum bicrystals were tested by bending fatigue under a constant strain amplitude of 0.2% and a cyclic frequency of 30.4 Hz.<BR>It has been found that the initiation of fatigue cracks along the boundaries occurs under the following conditions: (a) {111} in at least one component crystal is parallel to the boundary plane (it is not always necessary for {111} in the other component crystal to be parallel to the boundary plane) and (b) the slip system parallel to the boundary plane is remarkably activated in the vicinity of the boundary.
