Abstract

The Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction is suitable for a experimental teaching material to learn notonly the dynamics of nonlinear oscillator but also a basic process of scholarly research. In the presentexperiment, the Oxidation-Reduction Potential(ORP) and the color of solution are continuously recordedto analyze quantitatively the rhythmic phenomena of BZ reaction. For the sake of updating the teachingmaterial, this paper establishes a Hopf bifurcation theorem and for Tyson's model of the Oregonator,and also an existence theorem of stable limit cycle using the Poincar´e-Bendixson theorem. As a result,the parameter values based on the experimental condition satisfy the bifurcation condition obtained froma theoretical analysis. To illustrate the mathematical result and verify the accuracy of the model bycomparing with measurement data, some numerical simulations are provided.
