Hannah Arendt and Michel Henry have been rarely discussed together at the same time. I think, however, it might be interesting to compare these two phenomenologists with each other for the reasons as follows: First, both of them discuss the radical distinction between theory and praxis on the basis of the criticism of Hegel, but, interestingly, the two phenomenologists make a sharp contrast between each other in their way of relating one to the other, when, on the one hand, Arendt regards theory as the condition of practice praxis, while, Henry, on the other, regards praxis as the condition of theory. Secondly, both of them seem to share the same motivation for writing their books, Arendt’s writing The Life of the Mind and Henry’s Marx. The both authors’ motivation to write these books can be the same kind of philosophical desire to inquire into the cause of evil actions.
