Under the Kyoto Protocol Target Achievement Plan, Japan needs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 6% from the base year emissions of 1990 by 2012. Among the sections in Japan, the transport sector of CO2 emissions accounts for as high as 20% and reduction is necessary. Eco-driving running has attracted attention as one of the measures to reduce emissions.<br>In this study, using a driving simulator, a quantitative evaluation was performed on the differences in fuel consumption and the driving behavior of following vehicles in the same lane whether or not the information about the running pattern of the preceding eco-driving vehicle was provided. The probability was shown that information provision about the running pattern of the preceding vehicle enables better fuel-efficiency of a vehicle to follow a preceding eco-driving vehicle.
