Abstract
Traffic management of urban expressway often concerns with control and information provision. In the study, the distance based pricing system with ETC equipment is discussed. The diversion traffic might be produced as travel behaviour change of drivers in distance based pricing system introduction. The user equilibrium traffic assignment method is proposed to consider the toll system as well as diversion traffic. The distance based toll functions are compared based on the benefit of travel time reduction. In particular, the step function with distance range is practically recommended referring to the linear function with minimum and maximum range. The benefit of travel time reduction can be observed in each case because of increase of short distance travels. Furthermore, it is confirmed as well the overall toll discount for urban expressway can be feasible.
