Port cities will be classified into three categories, load center, maritime city and world city, depending on their service level. This article focuses on maritime cities, where management functions in maritime sector agglomerate, and explores the factors behind their agglomeration in 2012 by statistical correlation analysis to international container throughputs, the number of advanced maritime producer services (AMPS) firms and city rank based on the number of advanced producer services (APS) firms. The results reveal that the location of management Junctions in maritime sector in Asia is strongly co-related to the agglomeration of AMPS firms, rather than to the port container throughputs. This finding suggests that a port city government should consider port policies attracting AMPS firms in order to become a "maritime city".
