Abstract
In Nihonbashi River in urban area, sludge will accumulated on the riverbed. The sludge is anaerobically decomposed, reduction, and acidification of the organic matter will proceed. Reducing sediment is the key of deterioration of the water environment because it causes hypoxia and sulfur hydride. In this study, the effect of improving water and sediment quality will be verified by the inter-gravel contact structure using the granulated coal ash. The effect of the granulated coal ash was evaluated from change of sediment deposited in sediment trap. As a result, the reduction of total phosphorus, nitrogen, organic matter, n-hexane extracts, and organic matter is depolymerized by river water when flowing through the inter-gravel contact structure. Furthermore, it is also found that purification ability increases the decomposition amount of organic matter by increasing the granulated coal ash layer.
