Abstract

Belief in life after death is one of the core religious conceptions in worldwide religion and may exist before recorded history. In the present article,we described associations of afterlife beliefs with mental health and neuropeptide oxytocin and pointed out similarity of the function between afterlife belief and attachment, which has been originally argued to have stress-buffering effects. We propose that belief in life after death could have salutary effects and be useful for living as well as attachment, given that the bonds with loved ones remain after their death and have implications for afterlife beliefs.
