Tephras found in the core NU-SKG-1 chiefly composed of the Tokyo Formation (Setagaya Formation) drilled in Setagaya Ward, southern Tokyo, were investigated mainly through chemical analyses and refractive index analyses. 30.20m tephra included in the basal gravel layer of the Tokyo Formation, can be correlated with TAm-4(Tu-7) and TAm-5(Tu-8) tephras, one of the largest scale eruptions of Hakone Volcano. The age of the Marine isotope stage 6 (MIS 6) in the lowered sea-level, is concordant with the stratigraphic position; the basal gravel layer of the Tokyo Formation started in the low stand of sea-level of MIS 6, and continued the deposition of marine silt and clay rich in marine shells during MIS 5.5, or the last interglacial.
