Abstract

Various self-organization phenomena, in which ordered spatiotemporal structures are spontaneously formed from disordered states, are often seen in chemical and biological systems. In this paper, we show the utility of the visual programming language MATLAB Simulink as a tool for modeling and simulation of self-organization phenomena, dealing with reaction-diffusion system and multi-feedback system (Mackey-Glass system) designed for Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction and biological segmentation clocks, respectively. Via the numerical simulations of these systems, we present the basic usages of Simulink, and indicate the advantage of visual programming language for the investigation of nonlinear systems that are not analytically solvable.
