Clinico-statistical observation on 284 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of oral cancer treated in our department during the 20 year period from 1962 to 1981 was presented.<BR>The primary tumor was sited on the tongue in 161 cases, lower gum 43, floor of the mouth 35, buccal mucosa 24, upper gum 15 and hard palate 6.<BR>According to TNM classification of UICC (1978), 93 were classified into T1, 128 into T2, 42 into T3and 21 into T4. In the last 10 years, advanced cases (stage III and IV) were increased.<BR>The 5 year survival rate in each primary site was 73.9%(tongue), 53.3%(lower gum), 62.9%(floor of the mouth), and in each clinical stage was 81.3%(stage I), 70.0%(stage II), 59.3%(stage III) and 31.4%(stage IV). The 5 year survival rate of stage II and III in the last 10 years has improved greatly compared with that of the first 10 year term, while the improvement of the 5 year survival rate in stage IV was not observed.
