A 1-year-old girl suddenly coughed and cried. An abdominal roentgenogram showed a string of 8 foreign bodies which were understood as magnets used for the treatment of muscle stiffness. She was admitted to another hospital for 6 days but magnets were not eliminated. Eleven days after ingestion, she came to our hospital. She was doing well and asymptomatic. We followed her at our outpatient clinic with roentgenograms but the magnets remained at the same position. We recommended her parents that she should undergo laparotomy to remove the magnets but they refused it. Four months after ingestion, she presented with bilious vomiting and was diagnosed as having intestinal obstruction due to ingested multiple magnets. She underwent emergency operation. Ileo-ileal fistula which contained the magnets was found and the fistula strangulated a loop of the small intestine. We removed the magnets and closed the fistula, releasing the obstruction. Her postoperative rocovery was uneventful.<br> Accidentally ingested multiple magnets can attract each other through the intestinal wall, causing necrosis and perforation or fistula within several days. When ingested magnets on the serial roentgeno-grams do not change positions at all, even if a patient is asymptomatic, laparotmy to remove the magnets should be done within a few days.
