Description and Table of Contents
Description
This volume reviews the science and technology of the fabrication of composite materials including high performance composites with resin matrices, problems of filament winding of these, the reinforcement of thermo-plastic matrices and the production of carbon-carbon composites. It also deals with the fabrication and properties of metal matrix composites and of directionally solidified composites for application at high temperatures. Fibre reinforced ceramics are reviewed, particularly those based on carbon fibres in glass ceramics and glasses, and fibre reinforced cements for use at low temperatures are also dealt with. A final chapter compares biological composites with synthetic ones. This book contains the first comprehensive account of the production of carbon-carbon composites.
