内容説明
In this book, the author has drawn on his considerable experience of teaching analysis to give a concise explanation of the theory of Fourier series and integrals. He also shows how this theory can be applied to those areas of science and engineering in which it is of fundamental importance; in support of this, examples and exercises have been included at the end of each chapter. The intention here is to show how interesting and valuable applications of the theory can be made with a minimum of mathematical knowledge. A summary of the background required is given in appendix A. The book will be of interest to two groups of first degree students: for those studying applied mathematics, physics and engineering, it gives a justification of the mathematical methods they use, while for students of pure mathematics, it shows how analysis can be applied to practical problems. As this book is intended as an introduction, a comprehensive bibliography and guide to further reading has been included; readers will thus be able to pursue the subject in greater depth if they wish.
