Description and Table of Contents

Description

Covering the important field of applied geology, this book brings together two areas which are normally examined independently, economic (or ore) geology and engineering geology. The first half of the volume presents a geological and geochemical summary of ore forming processes covering both metallic and fossil fuel resources with particular emphasis on their ties to the evolution of the Earth's crust. Mineralization is seen and discussed as a global geological process. Case studies are given for two selected tectonic environments, continental North America and the circum-Pacific arc-trench system. The second part of the book provides a concise summary of basic principles and approaches to the problems of modern engineering geology. Japanese examples are referred to as case studies, demonstrating the special problems encountered in a mobile belt such as the Japanese islands. This will be of particular interest to Western readers.
