Description
Presenting an overview of current research and theory in developmental psychology, this book contains chapters written by prominent researchers and academics on their own areas of expertise. A broad range of developmental issues are covered, including core issues and issues related to the interface of developmental psychology with both clinical and social psychology. Separate sections deal with motor development and self-regulation, cognitive and perceptual development, social development, development and self-worth, the social context and life-cycle development. Specific topics include clinical implications of developmental research, the application of social psychological principles to understanding the effectiveness of various child-rearing practices. Several chapters also address issues related to development beyond childhood, including adolescence, adulthood and old age.
