内容説明

Ecological monitoring is a rapidly developing technique designed to provide quantitative data on the Earth's environment. The technique is becoming widely used by planners and development experts, particularly in developing countries, to supply the statistical background on which to base decisions about future land use, and to monitor ongoing change. The Handbook of Ecological Monitoring brings together for the first time information about the three major techniques involved: ground surveys, low-level aerial reconnaissance, and remote sensing from high-flying aircraft and satellites. It is a valuable introduction to the subject, written by twelve international experts on ecological monitoring, and it also provides practical guidance for the design of ecological monitoring programmes, with particular reference to the sources of statistical bias which can arise.
