As in the first and second editions, this elementary textbook on soil and water engineering has been written primarily for classroom and laboratory instruction at the college level for students in agriculture and in related nonengineering fields. The purpose of this book is to present up-to-date information that has been gathered through experience and research in a form that will be useful for the beginning student of this subject. The engineering phases of soil and water conservation are emphasized, but the authors have realized that all aspects of these problems must be considered, including agronomic, economic and others. The book includes subject matter on simple surveying and its application to field problems, in addition to information on the design and layout of conservation practices. This third edition includes the latest recommendations, which have been developed from experience and from an expanded research program in recent years.
