Description

The continuing search for a Northwest Passage lay behind Beechey's well-equipped expedition via Cape Horn to the Pacific and the northwestern extremity of North America, visiting Pitcairn Island and the Gambier, Tahitian and Hawaiian groups, and points on the west coast of North and South America. The narrative also shows scientific, commercial and strategic advantages secured through British exploration in the interlude of peace Waterloo and the Crimean War.
