Description and Table of Contents

Description

A revised edition of an assessment of the policies which have led to the achievement of surplus trade balances on the part of the NICs (newly industrialized countries of East Asia - Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea) compared with the trade deficit of the United States. The book analyzes the success of the NICs' policies since 1986 in terms of exchange rates and trade liberalization, which were aimed at reducing their trade surpluses without threatening the continuation of their high growth-rate in the past 25 years.
