Description and Table of Contents

Description

A great deal of literature is currently available on air pollution and its environmental impact on a local level. However, the emphasis of air pollution problems is now expanding to regional, continental and global scales. A larger spatial and time scale implies physical aspects such as complex topography and chemical and photochemical processes. It is clear that regional and long-range pollution cannot be separated since their physical and chemical processes are identical and basically the same models for studying them can be applied. The Sahara dust transported to the Alps, the fall-out of radionucleides over Europe following the Chernobyl accident and the overall concern about acid deposition are well-known problems. This book contains 19 lectures given at a course, which was held in the Joint Research Centre of the European Communities at Ispra in Italy.
