内容説明
This book contains the proceedings of the second IMA conference on this topic which was held in Cardiff, September 1986. It follows on from the very successful meeting which gave rise to number 6 in this series - J.H. Gregory (editor): The Mathematics of Surfaces. The wide range of papers cover both the design of new surfaces, and the fitting of surfaces to existing data, primarily in an applied context including such areas as computer aided geometric design. Some of the contributions are quite theoretical - for example a discussion of how an approximation to surface can be achieved. Others are practical and show how such techniques can be applied in such diverse areas as dentistry and ship design. There are tutorial papers on some broad topics such as the presentation of relevant ideas in differential geometry to a wider audience. Others are state of the art surveys and others present recent research. Many of the contributors are experts in the field, not only from the U.K. and other European countries but also from established teams in the United States.
Readership: researchers in applied mathematics, computer science, and engineering, in academic institutions and industrial laboratories.
