Description

The World Fertility Survey was probably the largest social survey ever undertaken. Over 400,000 women from 42 developing and 20 developed countries were intensively interviewed in an operational period from 1974 to 1982. This book tells the story of the World Fertility Survey. It describes the origins and development of the project and presents a detailed appraisal of the methods used to obtain reliable information in societies where investigations of this type are rare or unknown. The major findings are reviewed and the implications for population and health policies discussed.
