内容説明

The seventeen essays here brought together represent the most influential and significant thought on Dos Passos s career. The contributors include Alfred Kazin, Lionel Trilling, Arthur Mizener, Joseph Warren Beach, Granville Hicks, David Sanders, Chester E. Eisinger, Martin Kallich, Blanche Gelfant, Jean-Paul Sartre, Ben Stoltzfus, Richard Lehan, Marshall McLuhan, and George Knox. Many of the essays are reprinted from works long out of print and unavailable or from magazines and journals which may be difficult to locate.Allen Belkind, who edited the book and who has provided a lengthy introduction, sees this collection as revealing existing areas of disagreement about the intention, mode, method, and style of Dos Passos s fiction, the political and social ideas it reflects, and its sources and influences. Following Dos Passos s recent death, the collection thus provides an assessment of the importance of this major American writer."
