Der zweisprachige Sammelband dokumentiert den Neuansatz der Hauptmann-Forschung in den letzten Jahren. Im Kontext der Literatur der Jahrhundertwende und des 20. Jahrhunderts werden u.a. die mystisch-mythischen Elemente seines Schaffens sowie Aspekte seines Buehnenerfolgs untersucht. Wichtige Anregungen gibt dabei die Erschliessung des unveroeffentlichten Nachlasses. This bilingual collection of essays documents the new direction of Hauptmann research in recent years. It examines mythic-mystic elements in the author's works within the context of fin de siecle and 20th century literature, as well as some aspects of his successes on the stage. The acquisition by the Staatsbibliothek (West Berlin) of his yet unpublished literary legacy has served as a stimulus.
