Examines the incident that people in the 1790s thought was the most significant of the first year of the American republic. Federal troops were sent by President Washington and Secretary of the Treasury Hamilton - to western Pennsylvania in 1794 to punish some men who had refused to pay the federal tax on whiskey and had attacked the region's tax collector.
