Description and Table of Contents

Description

The purpose of this book is to provide reliable design information related to specific health and safety issues that should be considered when planning for new or renovated laboratories. The objective will be approached within the framework of other important factors such as efficiency, economy, energy conservation and design flexibility. Although precise specifications will be provided in some cases, the general intent is to review the relevant safety and health issues and then recommend appropriate design action, including, where possible, a range of alternatives. The book will seek to address at the design stage the many issues that have direct bearing on the occupational health and safety of those who work in science and engineering laboratories. The book is organized with sufficient flexibility to guide the user in the design of a complete, new multistory laboratory building, as well as in the renovation of a single laboratory module. It is arranged in a format that allows the user to start with the building description and then to proceed in a logical sequence to the development of each individual laboratory module.
