Description and Table of Contents

Description

An alphabetically arranged compilation of 400 physical effects and phenomena that range from those with almost daily applications to those that are rare but nonetheless significant. The goal of the dictionary is to explain these terms to a broad readership. The dictionary describes and explains the effects, shows their relationship to other phenomena, and provides historical background. It also contains a listing of available and pertinent literature, a chronology, and biographical information about the discoverers. This edition is a translation of the author's Physikalische Effekte (VCH, 1984) with some new entries and new references to current Anglo-American literature.
