内容説明

Prior to his tragic and untimely death in October 1969, V. K. Ramaswami was both an important and an influential figure in Indian economics, as well as one of the most original economic theorists India has produced. He was, in particular, a pioneer in developing the important new branch of international trade theory concerned with the choice of optimal trade intervention policies when the workings of the competitive system are distorted by imperfections, or when the government for some reason cannot adopt the "first-best" policies indicated by pure economic theory. This book, edited and introduced by three economic theorists of international reputation who collaborated with Ramaswami in his theoretical work, makes Ramaswami's contributions to economic science available to a wider public. These contributions are concerned with the fundamental theory of international trade. But they grew out of Ramaswami's official responsibilities for the promotion of economic policy in India and hence should also be of interest to those concerned with the practical problems of formulating international trade policies.
