内容説明

Aluminium is the most abundant metallic element on the surface of the earth, although never found free in nature. Its many desirable physical, chemical and metallurgical properties make it the most widely used non-ferrous metal. A comprehensive overview of aluminium extractive metallurgy is provided. Theoretical background information is coupled with practical observation in the belief that more efficient operation can be achieved with a better understanding of the process. The contents cover the Bayer Process and its various stages, the problems of carbothermic reduction of aluminia and the Hall- Heroult process. In these well established areas, research could vastly improve the efficiency of the process and allow the rare metals left in the residues of refining bauxite to be exploited more fully. This is another area discussed.
