Description
This book provides a thorough examination of one of the most contentious issues in Indonesian (and more generally Asian) economic development. The author's focus is on the period of the New Order government after 1967, in which foreign investors have played a significant role in Indonesia's rapid industrialization. Despite the great improvement in Indonesian economic statistics and the publication of numerous case studies, foreign investment has not yet received an integrated full-length treatment. The approach in this book is both descriptive and analytical. The early chapters outline the size, direction, source, and comparative impact of foreign investment; later chapters analyse the complex interaction between these flows and the policy environment, and a range of issues related to technology and the distribution of gains. The book will be of interest to academic audience, as well as those researching the Indonesian economy and business.
