Description
A completely revised and expanded new edition be published because of the rapid changes in the field of infectious diseases. The basic organization of the book remains unchanged, but this new edition has been converted from a two-volume to a one-volume format, containing more text and illustrations. Major changes and additions have been made to the content and placement of chapters. For example, new chapters have been added on the following areas: toxins and adherence as microbial virulence factors, pharmacokinetics, rifampin, metronidazole, tables of anti-microbial agent pharmacology, acute laryngotracheobronchitis, Lyme disease, noscomial herpes virus infections, infections in homosexuals, acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), infections in marrow recipients, infections in organ transplant recipients, and prevention and empiric therapy of infection in immunocompromised hosts.
