Description

American industry, in meeting the challenge of foreign competition, has experienced a paradoxical change in labour relations. On the one hand, firms have stressed worker involvement and commitment; on the other, the firms have cut back on employment by laying off workers to save costs and improve profit. This book is an analysis of these developments and an attempt to develop a theory of change that is consistent with these phenomena. The book also makes the point that government needs to develop public policies that will deal with the workers displaced by these changes.
