Description

A selection of Coleridge's published letters, concentrating on those of literary and biographical interest. The collection includes letters from the different phases of his career, revealing the development of his personality. Some show his association with Southey and Wordsworth and others his struggle against addiction to opium. In this first edition of selected letters by Coleridge translations of phrases in foreign languages are given in the text. Other explanatory aids include an introduction showing the importance of letter writing in the eighteenth century, a chronology, notes, a biographical register of correspondents and an index.
