内容説明
Practical guidelines for the mental health practitioner who provides mental health care for clients of differing ethnocultural backgrounds are presented in this book. It focuses on clinical implications of assessment, evaluation for treatment, and mental health care for culturally different populations. Emphasis is laid on the care of the patient in the framework of that person's culture rather than the framework of the therapist, indicating specific clinical approaches most appropriate to clients from these minority groups. Ethnosociocultural factors such as ethnicity, family values, language, religion, race, political ideology and cultural expectations, which are relevant to cross-cultural mental health, are examined. Treatment approaches are discussed for six major groups of minorities in the US, offering especially thorough consideration of black American and Caribbean cultural issues.
