Description
Did the years between 1471 and 1534 see the transformation of the medieval state with the assertion of monarchical authority and government? Can we speak of a "New Monarchy" in this period? This account of changes in the theory and mechanisms of government under the Yorkists and early Tudors focuses on their relationship to social attitudes and problems. The author assesses the role of government in the context of the long-standing historical controversies over whether the Crown renovated the medieval monarchy or laid the foundations of the modern state.
