Description
Provided here is a practical introduction to atomic absorption of spectroscopy. This is a technique which is growing in importance and the problems and potential of the technique are dealt with. The emphasis is on the practical and instrumentational aspects, with the use of mathematics and theortical spectroscopy kept to a minimum. More recent developments in the technique, including the growing use of emission spectroscopy, are also described, and the book concludes with a very useful assessment of the relative merits of the different techniques. This is especially useful to those meeting the technique for the first time or comparing it with established practices.
Table of Contents
- Atomic Spectroscopy: The Main Components of Atomic Absorption Spectrometers, Elements Which Can be Analysed by Atomic Spectroscopy
- The Theory of Atomic Spectroscopy: The Relationship Between Light Absorption and Concentration, The Light Source, The Monochromator
- Atomic Absorption - From Sample to Flame: Sample Preparation, The Nebuliser
- Flameless Atom Cells: The Limitations of Flame Atomisation, Electrothermal Atomisation, Problems in Electrothermal Atomisation, Hydride Methods, Cold Vapour Determination of Mercury
- Background Correction in Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy: Causes of Background Interference, Principles of Background Correction Techniques
- Atomic Emission Spectroscopy: Revision of the Principles of Atomic Emission Spectroscopy, Flame Emission Spectroscopy, The Microwave Induced Plasma
- Perspectives - Present and Future.
