内容説明

This survey focuses on the politics of the First World War. Based on research in recently opened archives, it explains why the governments of the day resorted to war in pursuit of their political objectives. It examines how the war expanded from a European conflict into a global one; why a compromise was not achieved; the international significance of the Russian Revolution and of the USA entry into the war. The book also includes an examination of the eventual peace settlement. This survey sets the events of 1914-1918 in the context of twentieth century international history and provides an insight into the political background of wars in general.
