Health psychology is a fairly new but fast growing area of psychology. It was first developed in the USA but over the last few years Europeans have contributed substantially to the promotion of, and research into, the discipline. The contributors, who are all internationally known experts, give an overview of research on representative topics in health psychology. Consequently this book is an overview of current research in different topics such as psychological precursors of coronary heart disease and cancer; smoking prevention; psychological factors and interventions in stressful medical events and procedures; compliance; social support; occupational health; and health education.
