Description and Table of Contents

Description

Families and Social Networks, published in cooperation with the National Council on Family Relations, examines both the structures in which family relationships are embedded and the network interaction of those structures. The first chapter presents an overview of theory on family and social network research, thus developing a framework for conceptualizing several distinct types of networks. Additional chapters cover families at different stages of the life cycle and refer to different types of network qualities. Finally, the consequences of social networks for the design and implementation of family therapy is analyzed. Family scholars will find the book of inestimable value in pursuing the many as yet unanswered questions in family newtork analysis, and clinicians will find in it guidelines for applying insights from network analysis in their work.
