内容説明

This is a discussion of the options, advantages and disadvantages of both the conservative and the surgical management of spine fractures at each level of the vertebral column. Special attention is given to procedures which may alter the course of the initially neurologically traumatized patient, such as vascular supply to the spinal cord, and the specifics of surgical techniques which may influence negatively or positively the patient's neurological or vertebral column stability outcome. It also contains basic science chapters describing embryological development of the spine and the rationale behind the occurence of spinal deformities, radiological and somasensory evoked potential monitoring of the spine injured patient, anaethesiology concerns in the neurological assessment of associated head trauma and orthotic management of the vertebral column and extremities following spinal cord injury. There is also a discussion of instrumentation options in surgical management.
