Description and Table of Contents
Description
This collection of papers looks at the four types of factors influencing change in the balance between industry and agriculture in economic development. Price relationships, influence of world trade, protection of products and industrialization in primary export economies are examined. Part one consists of the price relationships between industry and agriculture, their causes and consequences as well as the institutional and political-economic framework within which changes in relative prices occur. Part two deals with the influence of world trade, concentrating on trade in agricultural products and on less-developed countries in general or Africa and Latin America. The third group of factors is the protection of agricultural and industrial products examined in Part three. The chapters cover trade between developed and developing countries overall and also policies of both groups of countries. Lastly, Part four focuses on industrialization in primary export economies, examining the nature of the economic problems faced by these countries and investigating why and by what means they have chosen industrialization as a long-term solution to their difficulties.
