内容説明
This book results from an international symposium held in Oxford in 1985, which brought together scholars from various disciplines to share their knowledge and broaden their understanding of refugee issues. The articles consider not only those who flee from war and civil strife, but also the unknown but probably greater numbers of people who are uprooted within their own homelands because of environmental degradation and the consequent threat of starvation. Particular emphasis is placed on examining the period following the Second World War with the hope of furthering the understanding of present day issues. Parallels are drawn between what is happening in now in Africa, Asia, Central and Latin America and the situation in Europe in the years leading up to and after World War II. Similarities are looked at, but attention is also drawn to the differences of scale, locality and the attitudes of the wealthier host and donor nations.
