Offering a survey of the chemistry, pharmacology and behavioural and clinical effects of 5-HT1A receptors, in particular of 8-OH-DPAT, Buspirone and Ipsapirone, this study highlights the potential therapeutic utility of these drugs in the treatment of anxiety and depression. It also discusses topics such as the neurochemical and behavioural effects of 8-OH-DPAT as an anti-depressant and anxiolytic agent in studies of senile dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
