内容説明

This work is an attempt to provide a comprehensive account of the wild and cultivated potatoes of Bolivia. Part 1 deals with their breeding value, illustrating their extreme importance in providing the genetic basis for developing new potato varieties resistant to pests and diseases and adapted to environmental stresses such as cold, drought, heat and salinity. It goes on to discuss the genetical and cytological relationships between species, their genome composition, and their crossability with each other. The results of hybridization studies are presented, which provide further data on species relationships. The views of the authors on species evolution and particularly on that of the cultivated potatoes are given and evaluated against the results of experimental work with flavonoids, glycoalkaloids, storage proteins, immunelectrophoresis, and isoenzyme studies. Chapters on phytogeography and potato exploration are also presented. Detailed descriptions, distribution, habitat data, and taxonomic position are set out species by species in Part 2. The work is intended to be of use to potato breeders, plant taxonomists and plant geographers.
