Description
Following the Labour Party's defeat in two consecutive elections - 1979 and 1983 - it became clear that the party had suffered the loss of an intellectual base. Many traditional socialist forms of economic organization were perceived as failures. Perceiving that a re-think of socialism was needed, the Fabian Society set up a Socialist Philosophy Group to assess the direction that the Labour movement should take. This study is the direct result of that group's discussions and findings.
